Connecticut Bass Tournament Season Heats Up This August

Connecticut Anglers Gear Up for Busy Tournament Season as Night Fishing Event Kicks Off August Schedule

Competitive anglers across Connecticut are preparing for a busy stretch on the water as dozens of bass tournaments are scheduled throughout August, beginning with a night fishing event at West Hill Pond and continuing with competitions on some of the state’s most popular lakes and rivers.

The late-summer tournament season follows a packed July-August schedule and offers opportunities for anglers of all skill levels, from local bass clubs to statewide organizations and kayak competitors.

One of the first major events is the Northwest Connecticut Bass Club Night Tournament, scheduled for Friday, July 31, at West Hill Pond in New Hartford. Anglers will compete during the evening hours, with fishing running from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., a format that many bass fishermen favor during the warmer summer months when fish become more active after sunset. Organizers say the tournament will feature cash prizes and promote conservation-minded fishing practices.

The event serves as a kickoff to an especially busy August calendar.

According to the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), dozens of permitted fishing tournaments are scheduled throughout the month on lakes, reservoirs and rivers across the state. An updated schedule released on July 23 includes events hosted by bass clubs, kayak fishing organizations and youth anglers.

♦ August 5: W.E.T. evening tournament at Gardner Lake

♦ August 9: Island Bass Pursuit on Lake Lillinonah

♦ August 9: Naugatuck Valley Bassmasters on Lake Zoar

♦ August 9: Long Island Kayak Bass Fishing at Mansfield Hollow Reservoir

♦ August 21: Southwestern Connecticut Bassmasters night tournament on Lake Lillinonah

♦ August 22: Renegade Bass at Beach Pond

♦ August 22: BITE Tournament at Gardner Lake

♦ August 29: Rhode Island Bass Youth Tournament at Aspinook Pond

♦ August 29: Two separate tournaments on the Connecticut River hosted by Connecticut Bass Worm Masters and the Northwest Connecticut Fishing Club

Tournament fishing continues to grow in popularity throughout New England, bringing together recreational anglers, competitive fishermen and local communities while generating business for marinas, bait and tackle shops, boat dealers and nearby restaurants.

Many organizations encourage catch-and-release fishing and follow strict fish-care guidelines designed to protect bass populations and maintain healthy fisheries. Tournament participants are also required to follow state boating regulations, including safety equipment requirements and launch rules.

So whether, competing for cash prizes or simply enjoying a day on the water, August promises to be one of Connecticut’s busiest months for freshwater anglers.
