Stranded Dolphins Rescued In Wareham, MA
Two dolphins that became stranded in a marsh in Wareham, Massachusetts were rescued Monday.
The Wareham Department of Natural Resources (DNR) received a report of two stranded common dolphins near Beaverdam Creek off the Weweantic River at 10:45 a.m. on Monday, December 8.
Officials with the Wareham DNR responded to the area and found the two dolphins were alive and active on the marsh, but out of water due to the low tide.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Marine Mammal Stranding Response Team was notified and immediately responded to the area. They were able to rescue both dolphins from the marsh and transported them to an awaiting marine mammal transport vehicle.
They were taken to receive a full evaluation to ensure they could be released or if additional care was needed before release. One of the dolphins weighed 90 pounds and the other was roughly 150 pounds.
