MA Students Can Help Stock Trout
Schools across Massachusetts are on vacation next week. For those vacationing students who enjoy being in nature (or parents desperately seeking an activity for their kids), Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife officials are offering a fun project they can take part in.
Students can help Mass Wildlife officials stock trout in locations throughout the state during school vacation week. It’s an opportunity to help out the state’s trout population and also for students to have a memorable experience. Students will get a chance to meet fisheries staff, view trout up close, and learn about places to fish near them.
While it’s a great opportunity for students, you don’t need to be in school to take part. Mass Wildlife officials said all ages can help stock trout during the week and no registration is required.
The public trout stocking events are scheduled as follows:
♦ April 21: Cliff Pond, Brewster – Meet at 11 a.m. at the beach area off Flax Pond Road.
♦ April 22: Hampton Ponds, Westfield – Meet at 11 a.m. at Hampton Ponds State Park using the main entrance (not the boat ramp).
♦ April 22: Sunset Lake, Braintree –Meet at noon at Sunset Lake at 21 Safford Street.
♦ April 22: Lake Quinsigamond, Worcester – Meet at 11 a.m. at Regatta Point in Quinsigamond State Park at 10 Lake Avenue North.
♦ April 22: Onota Lake, Pittsfield – Meet at 12:30 p.m. at Burbank Park on Lakeway Drive.
♦ April 23: Long Pond, Plymouth –Meet at 11 a.m. at the Long Pond Boat Ramp off Clark Road.
♦ April 23: Chicopee Reservoir, Chicopee – Meet at 11 a.m. at Chicopee Reservoir on Johnny Cake Hollow Road.
♦ April 24: Colburn Pond, Leominster – Meet at 11 a.m. at Colburn Pond at Barrett Park, 40 Barrett Parkway.
