12 Boats Destroyed in Fire at Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop

An early morning fire destroyed at least 12 boats at Cottage Park Yacht Club in Winthrop on June 5.

Firefighters responded shortly after 2:30 a.m. to find multiple vessels engulfed in flames. Officials said fuel on the water helped the fire spread quickly between boats and docks.

Two burning boats broke free during the incident, with one drifting toward Snake Island and another toward Point Shirley. The U.S. Coast Guard assisted local responders and environmental agencies due to concerns about fuel and debris entering Boston Harbor.

No injuries were reported, and authorities say the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Founded in 1902, Cottage Park Yacht Club is one of Boston Harbor’s oldest boating organizations and serves boaters throughout the region.
