NH Dam Removal Will Benefit Trout
A New Hampshire dam slated for removal this year will reportedly allow trout to access roughly 70 miles of previously blocked streams.
According to officials with the Connecticut River Conservancy, the Wild Ammonoosuc Dam in Landaff, New Hampshire, is planned to be removed later this year. The 10-foot-high concrete dam owned by the Woodsville Water and Light Department reportedly blocks fish passage to miles of cold-water habitat.
Officials said removing the dam along the Ammonoosuc River will benefit eastern brook trout by reconnecting the species with 71 miles of streams and tributaries the fish can use for spawning and thermal refuge.
