Newport Harbor to Host Sail Newport Youth Challenge Regatta June 6-7

Boats, colorful sails, and fast-paced racing will fill Newport Harbor and Narragansett Bay June 6-7 as the 2026 Sail Newport Youth Challenge Regatta returns to Fort Adams State Park in Newport, Rhode Island.
The two-day sailing event will bring junior sailors from across New England and the Northeast to one of the country’s premier sailing destinations for a weekend of competition and waterfront excitement that spectators can enjoy from several shoreline viewing areas around Newport Harbor.
Hosted by Sail Newport, the regatta features fleets of Optimist and Club 420 sailboats racing throughout Narragansett Bay with action expected both days beginning late morning and continuing through the afternoon.

♦ Harbor cruise vessels operating during the weekend
Event Schedule:
Saturday, June 6
♦ Harbor activity begins around 10 a.m.
♦ Racing scheduled to start at approximately 11 a.m.
♦ Racing continues through the afternoon
Sunday, June 7
♦ Racing resumes around 11 a.m.
♦ Awards ceremony following final races later in the day
A Family-Friendly Waterfront Weekend
Organizers say the event offers a great opportunity for families, boating enthusiasts, photographers, and waterfront visitors to experience Newport’s sailing culture while enjoying an early summer weekend along the Rhode Island coast.
The regatta also serves as one of the first major youth sailing events of the New England boating season and helps kick off a busy summer of racing and waterfront activity in Newport Harbor.
