MA Woman Killed in Boston Harbor Boat Crash Near Logan Airport

A 24-year-old Massachusetts woman died after a recreational boat crashed into a pier near Logan Airport, throwing four people into Boston Harbor.
.A 24-year-old Massachusetts woman, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Dankert of Andover, died after a recreational boat crashed into a pier near a runway at Boston Logan International Airport late Wednesday night in Boston. Authorities said the boat struck Pier 4R in Boston Harbor around 11:20 p.m., throwing all four people onboard into the water and onto shoreline rocks.
Emergency crews from Boston EMS, Massport Fire, and State Police responded in difficult nighttime conditions to rescue the victims. All four were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where Dankert later died from her injuries. Three others suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators are still determining exactly what caused the crash. Officials confirmed the boat involved was owned by Freedom Boat Club, whose parent company stated the vessel had reportedly been taken “without authorization” after the club had closed for the evening.
Dankert was a 2024 graduate of Union College, where she played soccer and was active in academics and campus life. The college described her as an exceptional student-athlete whose loss has deeply affected the community.
